The First Olive Tree Sunk Its' Roots Into Soil That Is Now In The Nation Of Turkey. (Mesopotamia/Anatolia/Asian Minor)

Turkey is one of the largest supplier of olive oil to the US.

Much of the olive oil produced in Turkey is exported in bulk to Italy, Spain, and the US. In Italy it is often mixed with olive oil for several nations, then bottled and re-exported to the US as "bottled in Italy" or "imported from Italy".

The olive tree originated in the region that is now Turkey (called Asian Minor or Anatolia, Mesopotamia). Later it was cultivated and grown around the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean and Aegean climate in Turkey is very similar to that of the Tuscan region of Italy. The sandy soil conditions, sea breeze and unique varieties of olives in Turkey all contribute to it's fruity, light taste of our olive oil.

The olives in Turkey are mostly harvested by hand and are often grown in organic conditions. Because of the extra costs to get official organic certification many small growers can not afford to get the official NOP organic certificate to put on their olive oil labels.

Over half a million people in Turkey make a living off of the fruit of the olive tree. We apply fair trade principles in our business in hopes that the small growers can make an honest wage. This contributes to economic balance and a more peaceful world. If this is important to you please let us know. If you want to do a news story about olive oil in Turkey we would be glad to assist you.

Our olive oil is single origin (from one region/one nation). Most major brands of olive oil in the US are blends of olive oil from several nations. This allows us to give you a product with a consistently pleasing flavor and appearance.
